Mural Project Unveiling-29th Annual Art Auction

Suscol Intertribal Council mural project. Sponsored by BACC Bay Area Creative Changemakers with funds for California Arts Council. The Suskol House mural project sponsored by BACC Bay Area Creative Changemakers with funds for California Arts Council was completed on July 29th, 2024. This mural is dedicated to the survivors of the genocides of Napa Valley in the 1850s. Native American survivors running out of Napa Valley north into Lake County ran this route through what is now referred to as Chiles-Pope Valley Road. This is still a back road connection from Napa Valley to Lake Count around Mount St Helena into Middletown. It is titled “We Are Still Here!” This design was a collaborative creation with the participation of local tribal artists/members. Charlie Toledo/Towa descendant, as the current executive director of Suscol Intertribal Council directed and formulated the ideas before construction of Suskol House. The huge street facing the wall with no windows was designed with this mural concept in mind. It was a great delight to pull a team of Native American artists together under the leadership and guidance of Paul Stone, enrolled member of Big Pine Paiute tribe/ Washoe. His wife Angie Stone/ Apache/Cherokee. With intern artists: Barbara Clifton Zarate/Patawomeck. Sal Garica/MPA Band of Pomo Indians. Three generations of Noel Family Lovela Noel/ Pomo/Maidu; Jake Noel/Pomo/Maidu. Alicia Noel/Pomo. With support of Alicia’s father Richard Baughman NN. Reynalda Cruz/enrolled member of Round Valley Indian tribes/Lakota/Mixteca. Helpers: Madonna Feather/enrolled member Round Valley Indian tribes/Lakota. Danille D’Amour/ NN food and art; Randy Foisie/Blackfoot musical support. Henry family; Matthew, Tessa, Wilder and Mauve NN artists.
